The first kororā I ever saw were at Taiaroa Head in Ōtepoti Dunedin, waddling ashore with quick, tentative steps. There were five of them in this small group, with bright white bellies and blue plumage that dripped with the harbour at sun-down.

Kororā (Little Penguins) are the smallest penguins in the world, and the challenges that they face in Aotearoa are ever-shifting. While in Hokitika a few years ago I learned about the West Coast Penguin Trust, and the spectacular work they do to advance research, advocacy, protection, education, and conservation for kororā, tawaki (Fiordland Crested Penguins) and other endangered sea and shorebirds in critical coastal habitats across Te Tai Poutini.

It’s been an absolute privilege to work with the marvellous Inger, General Manager at the West Coast Penguin Trust, on a range of assets: from brand guidelines to refreshed newsletters, fundraising campaigns, signage, and news articles. I’ve learned so much and am endlessly motivated by these gorgeous birds & the incredible people who are dedicated to a future where they are thriving.

2025 Season Newsletter | West Coast Penguin Trust

“I and the West Coast Penguin Trust have been so fortunate to have received the offer of help with design and social media from Erin Dailey.  It came just at the right time when other priorities meant that aspect of our work was suffering.  Erin’s artistic talent, design flair and style and her passion for wildlife shine through in all that she does!  She is an answer to my prayers!

I have asked for guidance and help with a fundraising campaign email, extracting key elements of research reports to draft website stories, and drafting an e-newsletter.  That was all achieved with great understanding and collaboration.  Not only that, but unasked, Erin created new e-newsletter templates and a brand guideline for all that we do.  When there have been deadlines for campaigns and newsletters, Erin has worked closely with me to ensure we meet them.

In terms of success, we have had success!  Our match-funding target was met within days!  Our newsletter was very well received, generating comments and donations, and our trustees love the brand guidelines.  Next projects will be the Annual Report and another newsletter.  As I said, we are very fortunate to have Erin on our team.”
